Second Story – The Belamar’s World Class Restaurant

Mar 08, 2011 by Lisa Newton

Recently we wrote about our wonderful stay at The Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach. However, we didn’t get to tell you about how good its food and Restaurant is at their dining facility called
Second Story.

Whenever I’m going away for a weekend to rest, recoup and rejuvenate, I am in no mood to leave the premises and deal with traffic and parking. So there’s nothing better than walking down one flight of stairs and sitting down to eat. And that’s one of the great benefits of staying at The Belamar—they’re famed and world class restaurant, Second Story located in the hotel proper.

After we enjoyed a quick dip in the Jacuzzi and a brief hike around the neighborhood, it was time for dinner.

Second Story is relaxing by its use of warm colors, oval tables, and soft lights. As soon as we entered, we were seated and warmly greeted by Genka, our waitress. At Second Story, Chef Vania Almeida has crafted a menu which features Contemporary American classics with a playful twist, by incorporating many organic ingredients.

Taking time to peruse the extensive menu, I was ready to enjoy my meal:

For my first course, I choose the Filet Mignon Street Tacos. It’s a bit unusual to see filet mignon and street tacos in the same dish, but the combination was both playful, delicious, and tasted as good as it looks. It was accompanied by three homemade sauces, making it easier to enjoy each of these tacos to melt in my mouth.

A friend of mine who accompanied me on my relaxing adventure ordered the Shrimp Bisque pictured below:

That’s better than a painting and more delicious, as it tasted even better than it looks– rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Afterward I skipped the second course and decided to have the main meal for the evening:

Perhaps a bit unassuming from the picture above, all that changed from the first moment I cut into the Petite Top Sirloin Steak & Grilled Lobster Tail. With its rich wild mushroom and demi-glaze, it literally melted in my mouth. The meat was extremely tender, and the grilled asparagus risotto cake kept me busy wanting for more.

Between the first course and the main dish, I didn’t have room for dessert, but next time, I’m sure I’ll leave room for one of their scrumptious cupcakes.

To be sure, after one of the most relaxing nights I’ve had in a long time, by sleeping on the Larkspur signature FeatherBorne® Bed, I awoke with a fresh appetite. This meant one thing!

I had to have breakfast at Second Story where they serve up a top to bottom full breakfast. They featured a full breakfast buffet, and if left unchecked I would have spent all morning eating there.  See for yourself:

Of course I was beckoned for more work and things to tend to; otherwise I wild horses couldn’t have pulled me away from Second Story – The Belamar’s World Class Restaurant.
