Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Dec 24, 2010 by Lisa Newton

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, but for me, Christmas is more about fond memories which everyone can relate to.

When I was a child, I woke up to find our family’s Christmas tree loaded with gifts. And we were solidly “middle class,” I grew up in a very small “city” in Ohio.

Many of our Christmas presents were totally “utilitarian.” Frequently they included such items as underwear, pajamas, and of course, many a pair of much needed socks. My sisters and brother each had our Christmas annual gift unwrapping seat in our living room, as we went around in a circle, each opening up a gift.

These gifts also included ones for my Mother and Father. Besides the gifts we received from “Santa Clause,” my siblings, all bought gifts for one another.

One year, when my youngest sister was about five and had a weekly allowance of $.25, she spent a month’s worth of her hard earned income purchasing very small notebooks for everyone.

Although those days are now just fond memories, they still make me smile.

Now, I have new memories and part of those memories important to me, is spending time with you–Travelin’ Local’s loyal readers.

I would like to thank you each and every one of you for your continued support of our “lil zine” endeavors, and have watched us evolve from just an idea, And to each and everybody, now that our idea is becoming a reality as well, expect more and exciting content, maps, stories etc, and all the “Bells and Whistles” that are demonstrably both exciting and distinct.

So with that being said, I’d like to share one of my favorite holiday movies with you–”It’s a Wonderful Life.” In fact, many can watch it in its entirety via 14 parts on Youtube.
