Los Angeles Free Friday

Nov 19, 2010 by Lisa Newton

With an 80% chance of rain on Saturday and a 70% chance on Sunday, this might be the weekend you’ll have to stay more on the inside and less on the outside.

As winter and the holidays approach, this weekend may be your last chance to get that last piece of dinnerware especially if you’re into having guests and entertaining.

But for those who love the rain–and I count myself among them–being able to be outside for the joy of the great outdoors is something that has always been a part of my life.

Why not take the Great LA Walk 2010, to walk with other art lovers sounds like fun.

Now, in its fifth year, this year’s Walk is all about Wilshire Boulevard–leaving on Saturday promptly at 10:00am, from Pershing Square, the Great LA Walk will weave its way down Wilshire Boulevard, until it reaches the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica.

At a total distance of 15.6 miles, it’s really a Great Walk. With its over 250 walkers it will continue rain or shine. So, be prepared. Bring an umbrella, water, and any other paraphernalia you deem necessary. As far as food goes, it’s on you, but lunch is tentatively planned to be around 12:00-12:30pm at LACMA, where 4 food trucks, plus the LACMA cafeteria will be waiting. At the end of the Great LA Walk, where Wilshire Boulevard meets the Pacific, an after party is planned at the Border Grill. Sounds like fun to me.

Celebrating the Plains Indians, replete with their authentic regalia that consists of vibrant feathers, intricate bead work, and handmade jewelry and headdresses, Red Thunder brings family entertainment to a new level.

Showcasing music, song, and traditional dance, while re-telling the stories that have passed through generations, Red Thunder, entertains and educates audiences of all ages.

Tickets are all free and are distributed on Grand Avenue, at 2nd Street at the Disney Concert Hall. Tickets for the 11:00am performance will start to be distributed beginning at 10:00am. Tickets for the 12:30pm performance start at 11:00am.
