Los Angeles Art Month, a Wall, and Free Museum Days

Jan 07, 2010 by Lisa Newton

Did you know that January is Los Angeles’ Art Month?

Based on our enormous wealth of art–both public and private; Los Angeles ranks among the top cities in the world in its breadth, scope, and size of its art institutions, artists, galleries, public art, and collectors.

For example consider this wall:

On my way to photograph the Carnegie Libraries, I came across this building above. It’s facade provides an extraordinary canvas, on its wall, located in the 1600 block of North Spring Street in LA. And it was transformed into an extraordinary piece of art and an ever evolving artistic statement.

Faces in the Crowd

The portion of the wall above makes a bold statement—visually, symbolically, and artistically.

It’s also easy to spend the afternoon at a local gallery or art museum.  Choosing between the LACMA, the Fowler, MOCA, the Hammer, provides only a potion of choices to go and celebrate the arts.  Los Angeles is rich in aesthetics and each articular culture is represented by art.–indoors or outside.
