January is LA Arts Month

Dec 29, 2010 by Lisa Newton

Who could resist the idea of a month long celebration of art here in Los Angeles?

After all, Los Angeles’ heart beats to an artistic drum. From being the home of public murals to the Hollywood Bowl, from the many museums to the LA Phil, from free summer concerts to lively festivals, LA’s art scene has it all.

Through a collaborative effort by local arts organizations, LA Arts Month is a great way to see new artwork you’ve missed or revisits a few old favorites.

Who could argue with a mission statement like this:

Los Angeles Arts Month’s mission is to raise awareness, appreciation, and participation in the arts in Los Angeles in all forms.

While all of the last minute details are being worked out, one thing is for sure:

On Wednesday, January 5th, at the Music Center Plaza, David Hidalgo and Louie Perez of Los Lobos, will be performing a free concert to help to kick off the start of LA Arts Month.

About noon is when everything gets going, and along with the rest of the festivities there will be plenty of booths providing information about all of LA’s arts, events and special offers.

As well, the Music Center Plaza will be hosting many free, fun, and varying types of highly interactive arts activities. There will also be plenty of foods to choose from.

As more details become available, I’ll make sure to keep everyone current.
