Happy Earth Day

Apr 22, 2010 by Lisa Newton

I photographed this beautiful public art piece by the sculptor, Baile Oakes, entitled, “Gestation III,” in Santa Monica at Pacific Palisades Park. Solely made of wood, it was installed and dedicated here in 1991.

The artist truly captures all of the power of looking at the world with both a sense and feel of a new vision and embodiment of a worldly ethos.

On the plaque underneath, “Gestation III,” it reads:

“Dedicated to all who work to heal our planet”

Travelin’ Local’s stories are not usually captioned or written with a “Happy Holiday” perspective, but Earth Day is definitely a celebration we can all stand united behind and on behalf of.

Who can’t fall in love with the idea of embracing the Earth, keeping it clean, safe, and with the goal to heal our small part of the planet?

There are so many events going on today, I can’t possibly list them all. If you click the links, you’ll find a quite a few Earth Day events in Los Angeles.

Most of all have fun, learn new eco-friendly ideas that you can incorporate into your life, even create a park, but don’t forget, Earth Day is a day you can celebrate every day, as we all should do.

I think the best way to celebrate Earth Day is by spreading awareness of ways to help the environment. Imagine if everyone could do at least one thing consistently after being inspired such as bring their own reusable grocery bags or carpooling more often!
