Calling all Los Angeles Writers; Old and Young, Tall and Short, Online and Offline

Aug 03, 2010 by Lisa Newton

August is National Parks Month. Imagine, an entire month dedicated to the idea of celebrating parks–small parks, big parks, local parks, state parks, and national parks.

Of all of the above, my favorite park remains the neighborhood park; the one right around the corner.

Los Angeles has them all, and more:

Kids gather at the soccer field

Toddlers playing on the playground

Hiking trails where many a full of an experienced backpackers have traversed.

A mom watching their child’s every move

So, what correlation do parks have with writers, except about everything?

I’m inviting all writers to feature their favorite neighborhood park via Travelin’ Local or your own blog. Although LA isn’t known for its parks, should be. United, LA writers can show what LA is really made of–and express their emotional connections and relation to our great city–by participating.

Throughout National Parks Month, Travelin’ Local will feature your stories, photos, and activities as part of your celebration. All articles submitted during the month will be featured. If you have a blog, a short bio will be added at the end of your article with a link back to your site. If you don’t have a blog, you’re still invited to participate. All comers are invited.

To participate, you can either write about a park on your own site and link back here, or you can submit your story via our travelinlocaleditor [at] gmail [dot] com email address.

At the end of the month, I’ll take all the featured parks and put them into a huge Google map, which will include one photo and a link back to your article.

If enough people participate from all over the county, we’ll be creating a living testimony to our lives and loves while producing a fantastic map of our lives and their relation to our Los Angeles parks.

I look forward to reading your articles; don’t forget to take plenty of pictures.
