A Valentine’s Day Romantic Getaway

Feb 12, 2010 by Lisa Newton

Los Angeles is a city chock full of surprises and hidden treasures, but residents here don’t often associate it with a romantic getaway. But that’s a myth which no longer applies.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner on February 14, why not spend a romantic weekend away from the hustle and bustle of life here in town, while still being in the city?

The Georgian

The Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica

Located across the street from the Ocean in Santa Monica, The Georgian Hotel replete with its art deco exterior, recent renovation, and old style yet modern rooms and suites, is a first class hotel with all of the expected accommodations.

If you want to spend a romantic get-a-way for this Valentine’s Day weekend, The Georgian is offering special pricing for the entire month of February. If you can’t get away this weekend, next weekend can be just as good.

The “Month of Love” special includes:

A standard or suite accommodation, a bottle of champagne, one dozen chocolate covered strawberries, and complimentary valet parking for one vehicle.

A Suggested Itinerary

After checking in a Friday night with your girl, and after settling in, you’ll probably be tempted to just hang-out. Most likely, however, your Sweet Valentine won’t feel the same, so here’s a few suggestions about where to go, and what to do:

Only a few blocks from The Georgian, is the Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar. With its ever changing wine menu and tastings, the Pourtal is a great way to stop to try many of their delicious and always fun new wines.

Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar

Since The Georgian is literally across the street from the beach, you don’t need a car to get around, so after you relax a little at Pourtal, why not go for a quiet walk on the beach. Just walk a block or so west until you hit the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean. Depending on where you enter the shore, you might have to go down the stairs from the Pacific Palisades Park, but there’s nothing like walking on the beach hand in hand with the person you love.

After your walk, just cross the street back to Ocean Blvd., and you’ll be right back at the hotel’s doorsteps.

Saturday: After sleeping in, enjoy a wonderful breakfast on the The Georgian’s famous Veranda. With breakfast choices including like their signature French Toast Soufflé, it’s relaxing at it finest, as you can enjoy your morning coffee as the Pacific Ocean’s breaking waves are directly in front of you.

The start of a romantic Valentine’s weekend is off to a good beginning, so now what?

What about a visit to the local Farmer’s Market? Just about everybody likes to go there and hang out awhile. Perhaps it’s not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend, however, mingling, checking out the myriad of vendors and locals, walking around the market, listening to the music, and squeezing the fruit will no doubt put you in a good mood for the rest of the day—oh and they sell roses there too.

Bergamot Station

Since it’s still only late morning with the entire day ahead, how about a quick jaunt to Bergamot Station, Southern California’s largest art gallery complex and cultural center?

While there, you’ll be able to enjoy various hip and chic art galleries, featuring emerging new artists, and others that are well known.

Bergamot is a cool and intriguing place to enjoy photographs, paintings, and art in other mediums. You can even enjoy lunch at the Bergamot Café.

For Saturday night, just head back to The Georgian and step outside to the Santa Monica Pier. There’s no place better to enjoy a romantic evening then watching the sun set, window shopping, enjoying dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp, and taking a Ferris Wheel ride.

Here are a few more restaurants in the area that are sure to please your palette if you so desire:

After a wonderful day, you can walk back “home,” and settle in for a quiet (or maybe not so quiet) rest of the evening.

Before you leave, why not head over to Cora’s Coffee Shop for a relaxing breakfast and cup of coffee or tea. Since Valentine’s Day is just getting started, a bike ride on Santa Monica’s Beach Bike Path is both a fun and great way to enjoy the beach scene. From there, you can go almost anywhere your heart’s desire.

Third Street Promanade

These are only a few suggestions—you can also frequent Santa Monica’s world-class local spas that cater to your every beauty whim and desire, visit the nearby famous Third Street Promenade where there’s something for everybody, and of course, the sun and surf are always here for you to enjoy.

Embrace the rest of your stay–as a stay at the Georgian comes with a never ending list of things to do, and places to go for a unique and special Valentine’s get-a-way weekend.
